How to Embed a Verystep Tool on Google Sites (Embed Code or By URL)

Free, built in, two tabs to choose from — with one height quirk worth knowing upfront.

On Google Sites, embed a Verystep tool via Insert → Embed: the “Embed code” tab takes the full snippet, and the “By URL” tab takes just the tool’s embed address. It is free on all accounts. Two quirks: Google wraps your embed in a frame of its own, and the height is set by dragging the box — it does not auto-fit the tool.

Embed code or By URL?

Google Sites offers both doors into the same room. Embed code accepts the snippet from a tool’s embed box — the complete iframe with its title and lazy loading. By URL accepts only the address (the https://verystep.com/embed/… part) and builds the frame for you. If you have the snippet handy, use Embed code; if you are on a Chromebook with a temperamental clipboard, By URL asks less of it. Either way the result is the live tool on your page.

Step by step

  1. Open the tool and copy its embed code — the example below is the GPA Calculator.
  2. In the Google Sites editor, click where the tool belongs, then open Insert → Embed on the right panel.
  3. Choose the Embed code tab, paste the snippet, and click Next, then Insert. (On the By URL tab, paste only the embed address instead.)
  4. Drag the placed box to the width of your section.
  5. Drag its bottom edge down until the whole tool is visible — this sizing is manual, and the default box is usually too short.
  6. Preview the page (the eye icon) on desktop and mobile, then Publish.

Worked example

The exact snippet from the GPA Calculator’s embed box:

<iframe src="https://verystep.com/embed/gpa/" title="GPA Calculator" width="100%" height="520" loading="lazy" style="border:0"></iframe>

Note that the 520 height inside the snippet matters less here than elsewhere: Google Sites wraps the embed in its own frame, and the box you sized on the canvas is what readers get. Size the box generously — a cramped wrapper clips the tool inside it.

If something looks wrong

The tool is visible but cut off, with no way to scroll to the rest. The wrapper box is too short. Select the embed on the canvas and drag its bottom edge down; this is the single most common Google Sites embed issue.

The preview shows a blank box. Check the paste: on the Embed code tab the whole snippet must be present, and on By URL the address must be the embed URL (with /embed/ in it), not the tool’s normal page address. The normal page refuses framing; the embed address is built for it.

It looks fine on desktop, odd on phones. Use the preview’s phone view and resize there — Google Sites keeps the box proportions per device more honestly than most builders.

Other free routes with no plan gate: Blogger’s HTML view and Ghost’s HTML card. The platforms that cannot take an embed at all are named on the embed overview.

The worked example below embeds the Verystep GPA Calculator — a staple for school and course sites. Copy its code from the embed box under the FAQs; every tool page carries the same box.

Frequently asked questions

Is embedding on Google Sites free?

Yes. The Embed feature is part of Google Sites for every account, personal or Workspace. There is no plan tier and no code filter.

Should I use Embed code or By URL?

Embed code if you can — it carries the tool’s proper title and lazy loading. By URL is the fallback: paste the tool’s embed address (the one containing /embed/) and Google builds the frame.

Why is my embedded tool clipped even though the snippet says height 520?

Google Sites wraps embeds in its own frame, and the box you draw on the canvas decides what is visible. Drag the box taller; the number inside the snippet is not in charge here.

Can I embed a Verystep tool by pasting the normal tool page URL?

No. Normal tool pages send a header that refuses framing by other sites. Always use the embed address from the tool’s embed box — it is the version built to be framed.
