How to Embed a Verystep Tool in Ghost (HTML Card)
Ghost is a writer’s platform that trusts writers with HTML. One card and you are done.

To embed a Verystep tool in Ghost, type /html in the editor to add an HTML card and paste the tool’s embed snippet into it. Ghost does not filter iframes and no plan — self-hosted or Ghost(Pro), any tier — restricts the HTML card, so the tool renders in the post exactly as pasted.
Why Ghost is painless for embeds
Ghost was built by people who write, and its editor treats HTML as a first-class citizen rather than a security incident. The HTML card exists in every Ghost install, and what you paste is what gets published — no strip-on-save filter, no allow-list, no plan tier standing between you and an iframe. Among the twelve platforms in this series, Ghost and Blogger are the two with genuinely nothing to check first. The full comparison lives on the embed overview.
Step by step
- Open the tool and copy its embed code — the example below is the Word Counter.
- In the Ghost editor, start a new paragraph where the tool should appear.
- Type /html and pick the HTML card (or use the + card menu and choose HTML).
- Paste the snippet into the card.
- Click outside the card to see the tool render in the editor preview.
- Publish or update the post. Done — the tool is live inside your article.
Worked example
The exact snippet from the Word Counter’s embed box:
<iframe src="https://verystep.com/embed/words/" title="Word Counter" width="100%" height="520" loading="lazy" style="border:0"></iframe>
One Ghost-specific wrinkle: most Ghost themes give post content a comfortable reading width, and the frame takes 100% of it. If your theme supports wide or full-width cards and the tool is a wide one (the AQL table, say), set the card to wide — the snippet adapts on its own.
If something looks wrong
The snippet appears as text in the post. It went into a normal paragraph or a Markdown card that escaped it. Delete it and re-paste into an HTML card specifically.
The tool is clipped at the bottom. Raise the height in the snippet — 520 is the default, and editor-style tools like the word counter are happier at 600 in a reading-width column.
It renders in the editor but the email version looks odd. Ghost emails cannot run iframes, so newsletter copies of the post will show the card’s fallback rather than the live tool. That is an email limitation, not a Ghost one — the web version is unaffected. A line under the embed — “reading this by email? Use the tool on the web version” — keeps subscribers in the loop.
Keep going
Also effortless: Blogger’s HTML view, and self-hosted WordPress with its Custom HTML block. The gated platforms are listed on the embed overview.
The worked example below embeds the Verystep Word Counter — the tool writers reach for mid-draft. Copy its code from the embed box under the FAQs, or pick any other tool; the routine never changes.
Frequently asked questions
Does the HTML card work on every Ghost plan?
Yes. The HTML card is part of Ghost’s core editor — self-hosted or Ghost(Pro), free or top tier, it is always there and iframes are not filtered.
Will the embedded tool appear in my newsletter emails?
No — email clients cannot run iframes, so the email edition cannot show the live tool. The web post is unaffected. Many publishers add a short note linking email readers to the web version.
Can I embed a tool in a Ghost page as well as a post?
Yes. Pages use the same editor and the same HTML card. Static resource pages — a permanent calculator for your readers, say — are a good use.
How wide will the embedded tool be?
As wide as your theme’s content column, because the snippet’s width is 100%. Themes that offer wide cards can give wide tools more room.
