How to Embed a Verystep Tool on WordPress.com (and the Plan Catch)

Same editor as self-hosted WordPress — but your plan decides whether the iframe survives.

You can embed a Verystep tool on WordPress.com, but only on the Business plan or above: paste the snippet into a Custom HTML block and it renders. On Free and the lower personal plans, WordPress.com strips arbitrary iframes when you publish, so the frame never appears. If your plan is too low, link to the tool instead — or move the page to a platform without the gate.

Why does WordPress.com treat embeds differently?

WordPress.com is a hosted service, and for security it runs every post through a filter that removes code it does not allow — scripts and arbitrary iframes included. Pasting a link to YouTube or Vimeo works because those are on its allow-list and get converted automatically. A Verystep embed is a raw iframe, so it only survives on the plans that permit custom code: Business and above (including the higher Commerce and Enterprise tiers).

This catches people out because the editor happily accepts the paste and the preview can even look fine. The strip happens at publish. If the frame vanishes the moment you update the post, it is not your code and it is not our server — it is the plan filter. The embed overview lists which platforms have gates like this and which have none.

Step by step (Business plan or above)

  1. Open the tool — the worked example below uses the Loan Calculator — and copy the code from the “Embed this tool on your site” box.
  2. In your WordPress.com editor, add a Custom HTML block where the tool belongs.
  3. Paste the snippet and use the block’s Preview toggle to confirm the calculator renders.
  4. Publish. On a qualifying plan the iframe passes the filter untouched and the tool is live.

Worked example

The exact snippet from the Loan Calculator’s embed box:

<iframe src="https://verystep.com/embed/loan/" title="Loan Calculator" width="100%" height="520" loading="lazy" style="border:0"></iframe>

If the bottom of the tool is clipped on your theme, raise the height in steps of 40. Leave the width at 100% so the frame follows your column on phones.

On a free or lower plan? Your options

Link, don’t embed. A normal link to the tool page works on every plan. Phrase it as an action — “Run your own numbers in the loan calculator” — and readers land on the full tool, new tab optional.

Upgrade only if it earns its keep. Business also unlocks plugins and custom themes; if you were already close to upgrading, embeds are one more reason. Upgrading solely for one iframe is rarely worth it.

Check the neighbours. Self-hosted WordPress has no such filter at all — see the self-hosted WordPress guide — and neither do Blogger or Ghost.

If something looks wrong

The frame disappears after publishing. That is the plan filter, full stop. Preview lying to you is a known quirk — the strip happens on save.

The frame is blank but stays in the post. Check the snippet survived whole: the src must start with https:// — a mangled or shortened URL gives you an empty box instead of a tool.

The example on this page, live

The worked example below uses the Verystep Loan Calculator. Open it, scroll to the embed box under the FAQs and copy its code — every Verystep tool page has the same box, so any calculator or generator can take its place.

Frequently asked questions

Which WordPress.com plan do I need to embed a tool?

Business or above. On those plans the Custom HTML block keeps iframes; on Free and the lower personal tiers, WordPress.com removes arbitrary iframe code when the post is saved.

The embed showed in preview but not on the published post. Why?

The preview renders your block locally, but publishing runs the content through WordPress.com’s security filter. Below Business, that filter strips the iframe — the classic symptom is a frame that exists in the editor and vanishes on the live page.

Is there a workaround on the free plan?

Not for raw iframes. Free plans can embed allow-listed services by pasting a URL, and Verystep is not on that list. A plain link to the tool is the honest fallback.

Does this affect self-hosted WordPress too?

No. Self-hosted WordPress (wordpress.org on your own hosting) imposes no iframe filter for admins and editors; the same snippet works on any hosting plan.
