GPA Calculator
Compute your GPA from courses and credits.
GPA (Grade Point Average) weights each grade by its credit hours — an A in a 4-credit class moves the needle more than an A in a 1-credit lab.
How to use
- Add a row per course with its grade and credit hours.
- Click Calculate GPA — it weights by credits automatically.
- Remove courses with the ✕ button to test "what-if" scenarios.
About this tool
This calculator uses the standard 4.0 scale (A+ through F). Some schools weight honors/AP classes differently — check your school’s policy.

How it works
GPA is a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add those up, and divide by total credits. A 4-credit A counts twice as much as a 2-credit A, which is why heavy courses deserve the most study time.
The standard 4.0 scale runs A/A+ = 4.0 down to F = 0, with plus/minus steps in between. Some schools add weight for honors or AP classes (a 5.0 scale) — this calculator uses the unweighted 4.0 scale, so check your school's policy if yours differs.
Cumulative GPA works the same way across semesters: treat each semester's GPA like a course grade and its credit total like course credits. One rough semester gets diluted as you add more credits — which cuts both ways for seniors and freshmen.
Worked examples
Three courses: A (3 cr), B+ (4 cr), C (3 cr): Points: 4.0x3 + 3.3x4 + 2.0x3 = 12 + 13.2 + 6 = 31.2. Credits: 10. GPA = 31.2 / 10 = 3.12.

Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?
Multiply each grade’s points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits.
What is a good GPA?
In the US, 3.0 is a B average; 3.5+ is generally considered strong for competitive programs.
Does it handle weighted (AP/honors) GPAs?
This uses the unweighted 4.0 scale. For weighted scales, adjust the grade values to match your school.
