Webcam Test

Preview your camera before the call β€” and snap a test photo to check the picture quality.

This webcam test uses your browser’s built-in camera API to show a live preview and the true resolution your camera is delivering. Everything is processed on your device: no video is recorded by us, uploaded or stored, and stopping the camera (or closing the tab) ends the stream completely β€” check that your camera light goes out.

Press Start, then allow camera access when your browser asks.

How to use

  1. Press "Start camera" and allow access when the browser prompts.
  2. Check the preview: framing, lighting (face a window or lamp, never sit with bright light behind you) and whatever is visible in the background.
  3. Press "Take a snapshot" to capture a still at full resolution β€” it is the sharpest way to judge focus and picture quality.

About this tool

Resolution surprises people: a camera sold as "HD" may deliver 640 Γ— 480 to the browser if the app, cable or lighting forces a fallback mode. The number shown here is the actual frame size the browser receives.

If the picture is dark or grainy, the fix is almost always light, not settings: cameras shrink their exposure time in dim rooms, which adds noise. Add a lamp in front of you before you buy a new camera.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video being recorded or sent anywhere?

No. The stream goes from your camera to your screen and nowhere else. Snapshots exist only in this tab unless you choose to download one.

Why does it say the camera is busy?

Most cameras can serve only one app at a time. If Zoom, Teams, OBS or another browser tab is using it, close that first, then press Start again.

The preview works but my meeting app shows a black screen. Why?

The camera itself is fine β€” the problem is in the app: check its video settings (right device selected), its operating-system permission, and whether another app grabbed the camera first.

Why is my resolution lower than the box promised?

USB bandwidth, low light and app settings can all force a lower mode. Test in bright light with the camera plugged directly into the computer, not a hub.
