Typing Speed Test
How fast can you type? Measure your WPM and accuracy in one minute or less.
This typing test measures two things: speed in words per minute (WPM) and accuracy. WPM uses the standard formula — every five characters, including spaces, count as one "word" — so your score is comparable with other typing tests.
How to use
- Click the typing box and start typing the passage shown — the timer starts on your first keystroke.
- Characters turn green when correct and red when wrong; your WPM and accuracy update live.
- When you finish the passage you get your final score. Use Restart to retry or New passage for fresh text.
About this tool
Average adult typing speed is around 40 WPM; professional typists reach 65–75 WPM, and the fastest typists in the world exceed 120 WPM. Regular short practice sessions improve speed more reliably than occasional long ones.
Everything happens in your browser. The text you type is never sent anywhere or stored.
Frequently asked questions
How is WPM calculated?
Characters typed (including spaces) divided by five, divided by minutes elapsed — the standard typing-test formula. Errors do not reduce the character count, but they do lower your accuracy score.
Why did my accuracy drop when I typed the right letters?
Accuracy compares position by position. If you miss one character early, everything after it shifts out of place and counts as wrong until you catch up — exactly like most typing tests. Use backspace to fix mistakes as you go.
What is a good typing speed?
Around 40 WPM is average, 60 WPM is solidly above average, and 80+ WPM is fast. Accuracy above 95% matters more than raw speed for most real work.
Is anything I type uploaded?
No. The passages and scoring all live in this page; nothing leaves your device.
