OCR Image to Text
Extract text from photos and screenshots — right in your browser, nothing uploaded.
OCR turns pictures of text into editable text — receipts, whiteboards, book pages, screenshots. This tool uses the Tesseract.js engine entirely in your browser: your images are never uploaded to any server.
First run downloads the recognition engine (~2–10 MB depending on language), then works offline. Best results with clear, high-contrast text.
How to use
- Choose a photo, screenshot or scan containing text.
- Pick the text language, then click Extract text.
- Copy the result or download it as a .txt file.
About this tool
Recognition happens on your device, so it is private by design. The engine downloads once (~2–10 MB), then works offline.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Tesseract.js runs 100% in your browser via WebAssembly. Your image never leaves your device. Note: the OCR engine code and language data files are downloaded once from public CDNs (jsDelivr) on first use.
Which languages are supported?
English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French and German — pick the right one for best accuracy.
Why is the first run slow?
The recognition engine and language data download on first use (a few MB). After that it is cached and much faster. Clear, high-contrast images give the best results.
How accurate is it?
Very good on clean printed text; weaker on handwriting, stylized fonts or blurry photos. Always proofread important text.
