World Clock & Time Converter

Current time in major cities, plus converter.

Scheduling across time zones is where meetings go to die — daylight saving shifts make it worse.

Convert between zones

How to use

  1. Glance at live times for 9 major cities up top.
  2. For conversions, pick a time and the two zones.
  3. Times use your device clock — no account needed.

About this tool

This clock shows live local times and converts any moment between zones accurately.

All conversion math runs in your browser using its built-in timezone database.

How it works

Every place on Earth keeps time as an offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Tokyo is UTC+9 all year; New York is UTC−5 in winter. Converting between zones is just addition: 3 PM in London in winter (UTC+0) is 10 AM in New York (UTC−5).

Daylight saving time is what makes this tricky. Many regions shift forward an hour in summer — London becomes UTC+1 (BST), New York UTC−4 (EDT) — so a city’s offset depends on the date, not just the city. The tool uses the IANA time zone database, the same source your phone uses, to get every transition right.

The International Date Line, roughly following the 180° meridian, is where the calendar day changes. When it is Monday 9 AM in Tokyo, it is still Sunday 5 PM in Los Angeles — the previous day. Eastward travel ‘loses’ a day; westward travel gains one back.

Worked examples

Is this meeting slot sane?: It is 2 PM in Berlin in winter (UTC+1). In San Francisco (UTC−8) that is 5 AM — nobody wants that call. Use the Meeting Planner to find overlaps instead.

Calling family abroad: You land in Singapore at 8:35 PM local (UTC+8). Back home in Chicago (UTC−6) it is 6:35 AM the same day — wait a few hours before calling.

Usually a DST boundary: the tool follows official rules, which occasionally surprise people.
