How it works
This tool queries the Open-Meteo API, which blends several numerical weather prediction models — systems like NOAA’s GFS and Germany’s ICON that slice the atmosphere into a 3D grid and solve physics equations forward in time. That is why accuracy fades with range: tomorrow is highly reliable, day five much less so.
‘Current weather’ is the latest model analysis nudged toward real observations; the forecast shows daily highs and lows, precipitation probability and WMO weather codes — the standard numeric shorthand (0 = clear sky, 61 = rain, 95 = thunderstorm, and so on).
Privacy note: your city name travels straight from your browser to Open-Meteo’s servers. It never touches ours — there is nothing in between to log or store it.
Worked examples
Umbrella check: Kyoto shows 18°C with weather code 61 (rain) and 80% precipitation probability — take the umbrella. Tomorrow reads 21°C and partly cloudy: a better day for sightseeing.
Hike or not?: Saturday’s forecast: 60% precipitation probability and 45 km/h winds. That combination means an exposed ridge walk is a bad idea — pick another day.
