Unit Price Calculator
Compare groceries and household goods by true unit price — per ounce, per 100 grams, per pound or per item — and see which pack is actually cheaper.
A bigger pack is not always a better deal. Shelf-edge unit pricing helps, but the labels are easy to miss, the units change from product to product, and store brands rarely sit in a neat row. This unit price calculator does the normalising for you: type in the price and quantity of each option — grams, kilograms, ounces, pounds, millilitres, litres, fluid ounces or a plain item count — and every product is converted to one shared basis (price per 100 g, per 100 ml or per item) inside the same weight, volume or count group, then ranked cheapest first.
Add each product you are comparing — its price, how much you get, and the unit that quantity is measured in. Rows are ranked by unit price inside each group (weight, volume, count), cheapest first.
The two seeded rows are the classic shelf check: $3.50 for 500 g works out to $0.70 per 100 g, while $5.00 for 1 kg is $0.50 per 100 g — the bigger bag wins. Replace them with the products on your own shelf.
How to use
About this tool
The cheapest option is highlighted, with the percentage it saves you over the next-best option, and every other row shows how much more it costs per unit than the best. That makes the classic traps visible: the “family size” box that quietly costs more per ounce than the regular one, the multipack whose per-item price beats the single, and the imported product priced per 100 g next to a domestic one priced per ounce.
Everything runs in your browser — no account, nothing uploaded, nothing stored. Add as many rows as you are comparing, mix metric and imperial units freely inside a group, and clear the examples to start your own list. Prices are compared exactly as entered, so include the same taxes or deposits on every row if you want the ranking to reflect what you actually pay.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a unit price?
Divide the price by the quantity, after converting the quantity to the unit you want to compare in. A $3.50 pack of 500 g rice costs $3.50 / 5 = $0.70 per 100 g. This calculator does the conversion and division for every row automatically.
What is a good unit price?
There is no universal good number — a unit price only means something compared with the alternatives for the same product. The lowest price per ounce, per 100 g or per item in the group is the best value; this page ranks the rows and highlights it.
Why are weight, volume and count compared separately?
A price per ounce of weight and a price per fluid ounce of volume measure different things, so ranking them against each other would be meaningless. Rows are grouped by dimension — weight, volume, count — and ranked inside each group.
Can I compare price per ounce against price per 100 grams?
Yes. Ounces and grams are both weight units, so the calculator converts them to the same per-100 g basis before ranking. The same applies to pounds and kilograms, and to millilitres, litres and fluid ounces.
Does the calculator handle multipacks and per-item pricing?
Yes. Choose “each” as the unit and enter how many items the price buys — a 12-pack priced per item is then compared fairly against singles and other pack sizes.
Is anything I type stored or uploaded?
No. The comparison is calculated by JavaScript in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, saved to an account or written to persistent storage.
