About this tool

Regular breaks sustain concentration and make large tasks feel manageable.

The timer runs entirely in your browser — no account, no tracking.

How it works

The Pomodoro Technique, devised by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, splits work into 25-minute focused intervals — pomodoros — separated by 5-minute breaks. After four pomodoros you take a longer break of 15–30 minutes, then start the next cycle.

Why 25 minutes works: it is long enough to make real progress yet short enough that starting feels painless. The ticking timer adds a gentle deadline effect — committing to ‘just 25 minutes’ beats staring at a three-hour task.

Three rules make or break it. One task per pomodoro — no multitasking. If you are interrupted, the pomodoro is void: restart it. And breaks must be real breaks — stand up, look out a window — not a ‘quick’ email check that eats the recovery.

Worked examples

Exam prep: Two hours of revision = 4 pomodoros: 25 min work / 5 min break, three times, then a 20-minute break. You will retain more than in one unfocused two-hour slog.

Writing a report: Three pomodoros: #1 outline, #2 rough draft, #3 edit. The breaks stop you from over-editing mid-draft, the classic writer’s trap.
