Quick answers

What are the Mega Millions number ranges?

Five main numbers from 1 to 70, plus one Mega Ball from a separate pool of 1 to 24. This is the format in force since 8 April 2025; pages still showing a Mega Ball pool of 1–25 are describing the retired pre-2025 game.

The two pools combine into 290,472,336 possible lines, hence the official jackpot odds of 1 in 290,472,336 per play. Because the pools are separate, the Mega Ball can match one of your main numbers.

Can a number generator improve my Mega Millions odds?

No. Every line has exactly the same 1 in 290,472,336 chance at the jackpot and the same 1 in 23.07 chance of winning anything, however the numbers were chosen. Generation changes which combinations you hold, never their probability.

Nor can a generator influence the multiplier printed on a real ticket — that 2X–10X multiplier is assigned by the lottery terminal at purchase and applies to non-jackpot prizes only. The jackpot itself is never multiplied.

How does this generator pick Mega Millions numbers?

In your browser, it shuffles the 1–70 pool and the separate 1–24 Mega Ball pool with crypto.getRandomValues and rejection sampling, takes the first five and first one values, and sorts the main five. The Mega Ball is drawn independently, so it may equal a main number.

The generator deliberately uses the post-April-2025 pools, including the smaller 24-ball Mega Ball pool. Lines are generated locally and never leave your tab.

How to use

  1. Choose how many lines to generate: 1, 3 or 5.
  2. Click Generate numbers. The white balls are your five main numbers (1–70); the amber ball is the Mega Ball (1–24).
  3. Click again for a fresh set, or use Copy numbers to save the lines as text.
  4. If you play, transfer the numbers to an official Mega Millions ticket yourself — plays cost $5 with the multiplier built in, and draws are Tuesday and Friday. This site sells no tickets.

About this tool

Note the format date, because older pages still describe the old game. On 8 April 2025 Mega Millions was relaunched: the price rose from $2 to $5, the Mega Ball pool shrank from 25 to 24, jackpots now start at an estimated $50 million, and the old optional Megaplier add-on was retired. In its place, every $5 play automatically carries a random 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X multiplier that applies to non-jackpot prizes, so the smallest possible win is now $10. The white-ball pool did not change — it is still 1–70.

The smaller Mega Ball pool slightly improved the jackpot odds, from 1 in 302,575,350 under the old matrix to 1 in 290,472,336 today — a difference of about 4%, which is real on paper and meaningless in practice. The overall chance of winning any prize is 1 in 23.07 across nine prize tiers. Mega Millions began life in 1996 as The Big Game and is now played in 45 US states, Washington DC and the US Virgin Islands.

A generator’s honest use is the same here as everywhere: even spread. Hand-picked lines lean on birthdays (1–31) and visual patterns on the playslip, which concentrates thousands of players onto the same combinations. If one of those lines ever hits, it is split many ways. Random lines across the full 1–70 range do not win more often — no selection method does — but they are less likely to be shared. Last verified: November 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Mega Millions cost $5 now?

The price rose from $2 to $5 with the game relaunch whose first draw was 8 April 2025. The extra money funds a starting jackpot of $50 million instead of $20 million, bigger lower-tier prizes, and the multiplier that is now built into every play instead of sold separately.

What happened to the Megaplier?

It was retired in the April 2025 relaunch. Instead of paying $1 extra for a Megaplier, every $5 play now comes with a randomly assigned 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X multiplier printed on the ticket, applied to all non-jackpot prizes. Jackpots are never multiplied.

What were the old Mega Millions odds?

Before April 2025 the Mega Ball pool ran 1–25, giving jackpot odds of 1 in 302,575,350 and any-prize odds of about 1 in 24. If a website still quotes those figures — or a $2 ticket — it is describing the old game. Current odds: jackpot 1 in 290,472,336, any prize 1 in 23.07.

When are Mega Millions drawings held?

Every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Eastern Time, drawn in Atlanta, Georgia. There are nine prize tiers; matching the Mega Ball alone already returns a prize, and with the built-in multiplier the minimum actual payout is $10.

Are there lucky Mega Millions numbers I should include?

No. Every number from 1 to 70 and every Mega Ball from 1 to 24 is equally likely in every draw, and no number is “due”. Frequency charts describe the past; the draw machines do not keep score.

Does the multiplier apply to the jackpot?

No. The built-in multiplier applies only to non-jackpot prizes. If you match all five white balls and the Mega Ball, you win the jackpot (shared if others match too), with no multiplier applied.
