Sort Lines Alphabetically

Sort any list A–Z or Z–A in one click.

Sorting lists by hand is slow and error-prone — this handles thousands of lines instantly.

How to use

  1. Paste your list, one item per line.
  2. Choose A→Z or Z→A, enable numeric sort for numbers.
  3. Copy the sorted result.

About this tool

Numeric sort orders 2 before 10 (alphabetical sort would put "10" first).

Everything runs locally in your browser.

How it works

Lines are sorted in standard lexicographic (dictionary) order: characters are compared left to right by their code values. In A–Z mode, "Apple" comes before "banana" — note that uppercase letters sort before lowercase in plain ASCII ordering.

Numbers sort as text, not as values: "10" comes before "9" because "1" is less than "9". For numeric lists, pad with leading zeros ("09", "10") so the text order matches the numeric order.

Worked examples

Alphabetize: Sort a jumbled list of 200 product names A–Z for a catalog page.

Reverse order: Z–A mode flips any sorted list — handy for date-stamped filenames, newest first.
