Meta Tags Preview
Preview how your page looks on Google, X and Facebook — and grab the meta tags that make it look right.
Search engines and social platforms do not show your page the way your browser does — they show a snippet assembled from a handful of tags: the title tag and meta description for Google, Open Graph tags for Facebook, LinkedIn and most chat apps, and Twitter Card tags for X. If those tags are missing, each platform guesses, and the guess is rarely the sentence you would have chosen.
How to use
- Type or paste your page title and meta description — all three previews and the character counters update as you type.
- Add the page URL and, if you have one, the URL of your social share image (1200 × 630 px is the size every platform crops to).
- Check the Google preview first: if the title or description turns the counter red, it will probably be cut off or rewritten in real results.
- Copy the generated tags into the <head> of your page. If the page is already live, share the URL once more afterwards — Facebook, LinkedIn and X cache the first preview they fetch.
About this tool
This page renders those snippets the way the platforms do, so you can fix wording and lengths before you publish instead of after. Everything runs in your browser: the only thing that ever loads from outside is the share image itself, fetched by your browser directly so the preview shows the real picture.
Worked examples
A title that gets cut off: “The Complete, Definitive, Absolutely Everything-You-Need Guide to Growing Tomatoes Indoors This Winter (2026 Edition)” is 119 characters. Google shows roughly the first 50–60, so the result reads “The Complete, Definitive, Absolutely Everything-You-Need…” — the actual topic never appears. “How to Grow Tomatoes Indoors: A Winter Guide” (45 characters) survives intact and says more.
No share image: Post a link with no og:image on X or Facebook and it renders as a small text-only card that most people scroll past. The same link with a 1200 × 630 image gets a full-width picture card. Nothing about the page changed except one tag — the preview above shows the difference if you clear the image field.
Quick reference
| Tag | Who reads it | Guideline |
|---|---|---|
| <title> | Google, every browser tab | 50–60 characters, keyword first |
| meta description | 150–160 characters, one clear promise | |
| og:title / og:description | Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack | Can differ from the page title — write for the share, not the search |
| og:image | All social platforms | 1200 × 630 px, under 5 MB, key content centered |
| twitter:card | X | summary_large_image for articles and products |
| canonical | Search engines | The one true URL of the page, so duplicates merge |
Frequently asked questions
Do the previews match what Google will really show?
Closely, not exactly. Google rewrites titles and descriptions whenever it thinks it can do better, and it truncates by pixel width, not character count — so treat the counters as a budget, not a guarantee. What the preview guarantees is the other half: if your tags are missing or malformed, the fallback text is what people will see.
Why does my shared link still show the old title after I fixed the tags?
Facebook, LinkedIn and X cache the first version they fetched, sometimes for weeks. After updating your tags, re-share the link or run the URL through the platform’s debugger (Facebook Sharing Debugger, LinkedIn Post Inspector) to force a fresh fetch.
Is my page data uploaded anywhere?
No. The previews and the generated code are built by JavaScript in your browser. If you enter a share-image URL, your browser loads that image directly from its host so you can see it — nothing passes through this site.
What size should the share image be?
1200 × 630 px (a 1.91:1 ratio). Every major platform crops to roughly that shape; a square or portrait image still works but gets cropped, sometimes through the middle of your text.
