PDF Merge & Split

Combine multiple PDFs into one, or split pages — right in your browser.

PDF tools usually require uploading your documents to a server. This one does everything locally with the pdf-lib library.

How to use

  1. Select two or more PDFs to merge, or one PDF to split.
  2. For merge: click "Merge into one PDF" and download the result.
  3. For split: enter pages like "1-3,5" then click "Split".

About this tool

Your files never leave your browser — safe for sensitive documents.

How it works

A PDF is a collection of numbered objects — pages, fonts, images — tied together by a cross-reference table. Merging does not re-render anything: it copies each file's page objects into a single document and rebuilds the page tree and reference table, which is why the operation is fast and lossless.

Splitting is the reverse: pick a page range, copy just those page objects (plus the fonts and images they reference) into a new file. Nothing is rasterized, so text stays selectable and vector graphics stay sharp.

This tool runs on pdf-lib entirely in your browser, so your documents are never uploaded to a server — a genuine privacy difference from most free PDF sites.

Worked examples

One expense report: Merge january.pdf, february.pdf, and march.pdf into q1-expenses.pdf. Pages keep their order, text stays searchable, and the single file is ready to email to accounting.

Extracting signed pages: A 40-page contract where only pages 38–40 carry signatures: split out that range to send just the signature pages for filing.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. Files are read into memory and processed with pdf-lib entirely in your browser.

What is the size limit?

Limited by your device memory. Most documents under 50MB work fine.

Can I reorder pages?

The merge follows the order you selected files. For reordering, merge then split the pages you need.
